The Jockey Club/Equibase Release
LEXINGTON, Ky.—Equibase Company, the Thoroughbred industry’s official database for racing information, today announced the addition of an updated glossary of terms and definitions for race results charts on equibase.com.
The updated definitions standardize the terms used in the footnotes and comments of all race results charts. The glossary of terms page can be found through the Results menu on equibase.com and via a link within each result for easy reference when viewing a chart.
“Our track and field team spent considerable time reviewing and updating current terminology to be more consistent across all results charts and to reflect current norms,” said Scott Little, vice president of Racing Services for Equibase. “We are trying to make it easier for people newer to the game, as well as seasoned handicappers, to read the charts and get a better understanding of how chartcallers see a race progress from start to finish. We also want to be as transparent and educational as possible with what is included in race results commentary so adding the terms in a prominent location on the website is a great step.”
The glossary of terms page includes a section that groups the terms at certain points of the race to help explain the types of difficulty a horse can encounter at the start and then throughout a race.
