Three Horses Injured At Del Mar

November 10, 2019

Princess Dorian, Andrew Lerner trained mare by Idiot Proof was rushed off to the veterinarian earleir Sunday after being seriously injured during the 2nd race at the Del Mar Racetrack. Princess Dorian, appeared to have sustained a front leg injury that appeared to be very serious. The 5 year old mare last raced at Santa Anita on October 13th this year in which she won a claiming race. Princess Dorian was claimed this past August by Lerner from Reed Saldana for $20,000.

It appears that the horse took a bad step and subsequently was pulled up with Abel Cedillo aboard. The same jockey that was riding Mongolian Groom in the Breeders’ Cup Classic. There is no correlation between horse and rider with the exception of unfortunate coincidence. We await further information to update about the situation and hope things work out for the best.

Unfortunately this was not the only injury sustained today, the following 3rd race a gelding named Ghost Street a 3 year old by Ghostzapper trained by Patrick Gallagher sustained a front leg injury on turf piloted by Martin Garcia. This was Ghost Street’s 4th start of 2019.

Updated

As I was writing this it appears that another horse had to be vanned off the track. Prayer Warrior trained by Jeffrey Metz, ridden by Tyler Baze was pulled up approaching the far turn. This is very unfortunate and seemingly a strange occurrence for this many injuries inside of the same day.

Updated 3:56pm

Two of the horses subsequently could not be saved and were euthanized. Waiting on confirmed reports on all three.
