Mott Trainee Art Collector still in Top Ten at No. 9

Bill Mott’s powerhouse runner Cody’s Wish stays strong atop the Poll with 315 points after his victory in the Grade 1 Met Handicap just ahead of his other trainee recent Grade 2 True North Stakes winner Elite Power with 271 points.
With 220 points just behind is champion mare Asmussen trained Clairiere at third after a brilliant run in the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps.
Brad Cox trainee West Will Power, just off winning the Grade 1 Stephen Foster, garnered 167 points with Grade 1 Manhattan champ Up to the Mark, trained by Todd Pletcher, is closing in with 159 points.
British-bred In Italian mare was awarded 142 points after scoring in the Grade 1 Just a Game in early June for trainer Chad Brown.
Defunded remains popular with 133 points after his with for trainer Bob Baffert in the Grade 1 Hollywood Gold Cup victory while another Cox trainee, Caravel, scored 116 points for her score in the Grade 1 Jaipur.
Still in the Top Ten although no start yet this summer is Mott’s popular trainee Art Collector with 49 points. In his last start, the Bernardini colt placed second in the Alysheba on May 5.
Rounding out the top ten with 36 points is the formidable Brown trained Goodnight Olive with points after her Grade 2 Bed o’ Roses victory at Belmont Park.
Week 24 of the 2023 NTRA Top Thoroughbred Poll conducted by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA), covering racing performances through July 9. Voting is conducted by national media.
The Top Thoroughbred poll represents horses competing for Horse of the Year. The Top Thoroughbred Poll concludes on Tuesday, November 7 following the Breeders’ Cup World Championships.
Rankings on both polls are on a 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-1 basis with first place votes in parentheses, 2023 record and total points. A-S: Age-Sex, Sex: C-colt, G-gelding, H-horse, F-filly, M-mare, R-ridgling.
