Maribeth Kalinich, Senior Editor, Graphic Designer

September 19, 2019

Maribeth Kalinich grew up in a family with a love for horses, a passion for Thoroughbred horse racing and a taste for playing the ponies. A native Baltimorean, Maribeth spent her youth attending the races at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore City, riding at Cub Hill in Baltimore County and grooming hunter/jumpers in the summer in Victor, New York. She enjoyed visiting places like Sagamore Farm to see Native Dancer who inspired a life-long love for horse–Thoroughbred horses and the sport of horse racing.

With a background in design—both graphic and jewelry design—and having had her own business for seven years where she performed copywriting and editing, Maribeth brings her keen eye and sharp skills to Past The Wire.

With a deep affection for Pimlico she has blogged and posted essays about the historic race course on her Facebook page, Friends of Pimlico, since 2015. Maribeth also actively lobbies to keep the iconic track open and encourages renovations reflecting its storied past.

Maribeth also supports the industry and the backstretch through her Facebook group networking industry professionals, Horse Racing & Breeding Jobs US. The group has over 11,000 members.

A student of Thoroughbred racing history, Maribeth writes stories about horses, races, racetracks and the people of the industry. She brings her passion for the history and the excitement of present-day racing to Past The Wire as a contributing writer, senior editor and graphic designer.

Maribeth is a member of the Maryland Horse Council and a pending member of the Maryland Racing Media Association (MRMA).
