Teaching Newbies Horse Racing, we delve into it

January 14, 2021

On this episode of the Past the Wire’s podcast “Gate to Wire” brought to you by Spendthrift Farm we delve into teaching newbies about horse racing including a simple introduction to wagering. We start with the assumption they know nothing about the sport or wagering. We welcome Tom Amello who has put together a blueprint based on his many years in the game and teaching background.

Tom points out how the game starts with the odds board and the morning line and the wagers evolve from there. The whole idea of the game. despite all the spins, is to put on races and attract “customers” to wager on the outcomes. That seems to get lost in translation, and worse deliberately ignored at times.

Our hosts Jonathan Stettin and Michael Vale offer their views and ideas on new wagers and where the game has to go to not only attract new customers and players, but also to retain the existing ones.
