Sunny One surges to win Jackpot Farm Purse

October 21, 2022

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Midnight Rider Racing Stable’s Sunny One surged through an opening next to the rail and blew past longtime leader Scotish Star (ARG) in deep stretch to win the featured $130,000 Jackpot Farm Purse for fillies and mares by a head on a sun-splashed Friday afternoon.

Trained by Conor Murphy and ridden by James Graham, Sunny One completed the distance of about 1 1/16 miles on a firm turf course in 1:42.46.

Now 2-for-2 at Keeneland, Sunny One is a 4-year-old Kentucky-bred daughter of Dialed In out of the Smart Strike mare Party Smart. The victory for Sunny One, who owns a record of 17-6-5-1, was worth $73,548 and increased her career earnings to $271,009.

Sunny One returned $10.68, $5.04 and $3.54 as the second choice in the field of 12. Favored Scotish Star, ridden by Luis Saez, returned $3.34 and $3.02 and finished a length ahead of Princess Fawzia, who paid $5.86 to show under Tyler Gaffalione.

Racing continues Saturday with a 10-race program that begins at 1 p.m. ET and features two stakes.

The sixth race with a post time of 3:40 p.m. is the $250,000 Perryville (L) for 3-year-olds. The ninth race with a post time of 5:16 p.m. is the $350,000 Lexus Raven Run (G2) for 3-year-old fillies.
