LAUREL, Md. – There were 20 winning tickets on Friday’s Stronach 5, each returning $2,828.40.
The Stronach 5 featured races from Pimlico Race Course, Gulfstream Park, Santa Anita Park and Golden Gate Fields, return
Originally an all-turf wager, the first leg of the Stronach 5, Pimlico’s eighth race, was taken off the turf due to overnight rain. The race was won by Shanghaied Astoria ($6.40) and jockey Horacio Karamanos. Beauty Boss ($20.60), trained by Jose Garoffalo, rallied from off the pace to win Gulfstream’s sixth race and the second leg of the Stronach 5.
The Stronach 5 headed west for the next two legs. Sunshine Babe ($3.40), the 3-5 favorite, made it look easy winning Santa Anita’s third race while Balius ($8.80) was placed first through a disqualification in Golden Gate’s third race and the Stronach 5’s fourth leg.
The Stronach 5 concluded with Gulfstream’s eighth race and Breakthrough ($10.40) drawing off down the stretch for the victory.
