September 21, 2020

LEXINGTON, Ky. – At the mid-point of the 2020 Keeneland September Yearling sale, Gormley’s offspring continue to be among the top sellers for First-Crop sires.

During Sunday’s session, hip No. 2279, consigned by Gainesway, agent, went to Ronnie Edmondson for $140,000.

One of three foals out of Mott n Hester, the chestnut colt was bred in Kentucky and hails Grade 1 winner Bullard’s Alley as well as graded wines Karibu Gardens and Nessy.

Through the first seven sessions of the marathon auction, Gormley’s yearlings have averaged a robust 12.5 times his stud fee.

Gormley kicked off his Keeneland sales career in style on Friday when a bay colt by the Spendthrift stallion brought a winning bid of $270,000, which is 36 times his stud fee.

Consigned by Gainesway, Agent, the colt went to Lauren Carlisle, agent. Hip No. 1314 was bred by Rosa Colasanti, Dr. Naoya Yoshida and Kara McDermott.

“The Gormleys all look really fast,” said Carlisle. “This colt was physically well above the other yearlings in the session. We thought he had one of the best physicals we’ve seen.”

The Kentucky-bred is out of Crossing the Tape and is a half-brother to multiple stakes-placed Life Mission. Crossing the Tape is a half-sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Gabby’s Golden Gal and three-time Grade 2 winner Always a Princess.

Gormley, winner of the FrontRunner S. (G1) and Santa Anita Derby (G1), was one of the most popular first year sires of 2018, breeding 180 mares.
