Welcome to another episode of Past the Wire’s podcast, Gate to Wire brought to you by Spendthrift farm.
Usually when you ask someone their favorite horse-racing movie you get a few of the same answers. Let It Ride, Secretariat, Phar Lap and maybe one or two others. Not when you ask our host Jonathan Stettin.
Co host Michael Zale posed the question and get the unexpected answer. The Killing. No, it is not very well known in today’s racing circles and most racing fans today have never heard of it let alone seen it. That said it was famed Director Stanley Kubrick’s first major file and many of the techniques he used in filming this classic have been copied.
Jon readily admits the film is not for everyone but as someone who has always rooted for the bad guy and the under dog Jon loves the movie and quickly calls it his favorite horse-racing film ever. Michael and Jonathan discuss the film, the characters, the backdrop and ssome classic quotes of which the film has many.
Apologies in advance for two of the language in the quotes as no offense is meant or applied they were taken from the film. You can watch the trailer HERE and see what it is all about.
