Sign Up for Your Volunteer Shift at the 2022 Thoroughbred Makeover!

September 9, 2022

Hello, RRP Volunteers!

We hope your summer is easing gently into fall… those shorter days and crisper mornings mean the 2022 Thoroughbred Makeover is right around the corner! We’re about FIVE WEEKS OUT from this year’s competition — can you feel the excitement?

Don’t forget that volunteer sign-ups are now open on our website. You can tailor your volunteer schedule for the week and put yourself in the places you want to be – or sign up to be a floater or runner and get to see everything! This year’s Makeover runs October 12th-15th, and we’ll need help starting on the 10th.

We have lots of shifts and a wide range of jobs still available: we’re in need of scribes, scorers, runners, jump crew and course help. Don’t forget that with the addition of T.I.P. Championships this year, we’ll need extra hands! Consider forwarding this email to a friend or family member who would love a trip to Kentucky and bring your whole entourage.

Are you a Makeover participant this year waiting on ride times to be published before you make your shift selection? No problem — or, sign up for a part-day shift on Tuesday or Friday on non-competition days!

Remember that there are perks to volunteering: all of our volunteers get the coveted teal volunteer shirt and ball cap, lunch if you’re working a full day shift, and all the drinks and snacks you need to stay fueled. Your volunteer badge will also earn you 20% off at the RRP Store booth, and every shift earns you a raffle ticket for our traditional Yeti cooler drawing during the Finale (a total of nine coolers have already been donated!).

VOLUNTEER DAY AT THE RRP OFFICE

Are you in the mid-Atlantic region and want to come by to help the RRP staff get organized and packed for the trip to Kentucky? We’re hosting a volunteer work day on September 24 at the RRP office in Edgewater, MD starting at 9 AM. Come when you can, or come for the whole day — lunch is on us! PLUS, all attendees will get $50 in RRP Store credit (and you can shop in person!). No prior experience necessary: we’ll be stuffing packets, folding shirts, organizing ribbons and packing equipment and supplies. RSVP via our Facebook event!

Connect with your fellow volunteers in our Facebook group too! You may have seen a post from our beloved longtime volunteer coordinator Peg Sorenson that sadly, she will not be able to attend the Makeover this year. Rest assured that we are working on finding another volunteer coordinator to lead us through the week… although Peg left big shoes to fill! We are so grateful for all the hard work Peg has put in to ensuring a top-notch experience for our volunteers over past years.

To all of our volunteers, Thanks so much for all you have done for us and the horses in the past–we literally could not do this without you!

With appreciation,
Sallie & the RRP Staff
