We are finally off and running at Saratoga’s 2023 Meet. Before we get any deeper into the summer, I wanted to share some statistics with you regarding Sire Wins for Two-Year-Old Maiden Special Weight races at The Spa. Our analysis covers the prior five years (2018 through 2022). Before we dig in, let me ask you a quick question – ‘Who gives you the most detailed information on 2YO MSW races’? If you answered with anything other than PastTheWire.com, I’m protesting. In all seriousness, we enjoy bringing you these teachings and hope that you find them valuable.
We’ve all heard the old saying, ‘Horses for Courses’. I believe that holds true even for the offspring of certain sires. The only way to dig into that it to simply take a look at sire stats and how their charges have performed at Saratoga. We want to go back far enough to get a reasonable sample, but also not too far back as it would exclude some of the sires that didn’t start serving stallion duty until fairly recently. So, we’ve settled on a five year look back.
It goes without saying that some stallions stamp horses that excel at a higher clip on the dirt vs. turf and certainly, visa versa. Hence, we’ve broken down our analysis into three buckets – dirt, turf and all.
