John Stewart’s Resolute Racing isn’t just investing globally, they are investing in the future of the American Thoroughbred – one horse at a time. Or sometimes three.

Meet Ed, Eddy and Edward. They are the newest additions to Resolute Racing’s herd. A herd that grows ever larger daily, these three Thoroughbred colts were rescued from an unkind fate in the kill pen.

Their new life began officially on October 17th when Resolute’s Sarah Stewart posted on X how they became aware of these three colts.

“Didn’t think twice about it. There was no way I could let these BABIES go on that truck!” Stewart exclaimed.

John Stewart commented on X in discovering the trio. “I don’t understand what is so hard that the industry will track these horses and see who the responsible party is and those people should be banned from all race tracks for life nationwide and no breeder or auction should sell these people horses.”

Hip 15 actually was given a registered Jockey Club name. Awesome Hawaiian. The yearling colt is by Awesome Bet out of Choosing Choice mare Hawaiian Diamond. Where he landed was far from heavenly Hawaii.

There is no such name on Equibase but there was a page on Pedigee Query for Awesome Hawaiian that lists Linda P. Sebastien as the breeder.

All three colts are Louisiana-breds.

The trio was transported October 19th from the kill pen in Texas to their quarantine facility and will officially join the Resolute Herd in Kentucky after 30 days.

Chelsey Stone of Resolute said on X: “These babies just hit the jackpot!! 30 days of quarantine and then they head to Resolute!! We cannot wait to spoil these guys!”

Hip 165 is an unnamed Five Demon Bag colt out of Irish mare New Approach (Labhay {IRE}).

A son of 2017 Preakness winner Cloud Computing wore Hip 104. This colt is out of Hard Spun mare Sweet Pea Mama Ve.

Not Their First Rodeo

These are not the first horses rescued by Resolute.

In fact, in September Chelsey Stone reported that Prayforthewin and Guitarzan had both arrived at Resolute after being rescued.

Prayforthewin is a 7-year-old Louisiana-bred gelding that had three starts on the track, the last being at delta Downs Nov. 10, 2022, where he finished eighth.

The son of Louisiana’s leading sire, Star Guitar, Guitarzan is an 8-year-old who let the track April 12, 2024, after making 50 starts with a career record of 12 wins, six second places and three thirds earning $206,452 in primarily claiming races.

The dark brown near black gelding had two starts in 2024. His last in April with a tenth-place finish at Evangeline Downs and Feb. 2 at Delta Downs where he did not finish.

That had been Guitarzan’s first start since May 25, 2023. He had made only four starts that year beginning with a win coming off another win exactly a month before in December 2022.

Guitarzan made 11 starts in 2022 with his only other win being in May.

Earlier in September the elder Stewart posted on X about My Little Dude who was dumped in a kill pen after running in a claiming race in May.

The post showed the horrific effects of the pen on My Little Dude and his glow after a lot of TLC.

“Before and after is amazing. I can attest that this is the best thing I have experienced in horse racing! Making a difference in ONE horse’s life is what it is all about,” Stewart said on X.

Resolute Racing and the Stewart family have made a profound commitment to securing a safe future for all Thoroughbreds.
