HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool is expected to grow to an estimated $125,000 Sunday at Gulfstream Park, where the popular multi-race wager has gone unsolved for five racing days following a mandatory payout.
The Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 4-9, kicked off by a 5 ½-furlong maiden special weight event for 2-year-old fillies in Race 4 that attracted some well-bred first-time starters. Leading trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. is represented in the field of eight by Mystical Belle, the 8-5 morning-line favorite by Basin who brought $270,000 at OBS March, and Rileytole, a daughter of Mitole.
In the Race 8 feature, Elizabeth Dobles-trained Amor Y Control, who finished first in seven straight races before settling for second in her last three starts, will seek to get back to her winning ways in the 5 ½-furlong starter allowance for fillies and mares on Tapeta. Gary Jackson-trained Mywifeknowsitall, who prevailed over Amor Y Control by three-quarters of a length last time out, will make a bid to go back-to-back.
In the Rainbow 6, the jackpot pool is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool usually goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
