- New revolutionary online bloodstock auction house’s first UK sponsorship with Racing League
- Broadcast supremo Cornelius Lysaght to lead as Team Manager
- Classic-winning trainers Richard Hannon and Andrew Balding, Champion Flat Jockey Oisin Murphy, record-breaking jockey Hayley Turner, plus Sean Levey, and make up ‘Team ThoroughBid’
Racing League, the new and innovative horseracing competition, has today announced ThoroughBid as the eighth sponsor of one of its 12 teams for the upcoming event, which consists of six consecutive Thursday evening fixtures. This is the first sponsorship that ThoroughBid has confirmed since its launch just under a week ago.
ThoroughBid is the UK’s first dedicated online auction house for the racing industry, providing purchasers and vendors with regular opportunities to trade all categories of bloodstock in one place, from horses in training to mares with foals at foot.
Ross Alberto, Co-founder of ThoroughBid, said: “We’re very excited about the Racing League. It looks fun, fresh and brings something new to racing, which is exactly what we’re trying to do in the sale of bloodstock at ThoroughBid. Team ThoroughBid looks very strong, with Andrew Balding and Richard Hannon doing the training and champion jockey Oisin Murphy, Hayley Turner and Sean Levey to steer them home!”
ThoroughBid looks set to be one of the teams to beat and is in a confident mood. ThoroughBid’s Team Manager – broadcaster and journalist Cornelius Lysaght – who is no stranger to racing, commented: “I’m absolutely delighted to be a part of both the Racing League and Team ThoroughBid in what is a hugely exciting new venture for the sport. The six meetings will be fiercely competitive, and I think we can expect to see a lot of nice horses taking part from some of British racing’s most powerful stables.
“I’m not sure how much racing wisdom I can impart to the likes of Andrew Balding and Richard Hannon in my team, but I’m hopeful we can make a bit of history and see Team ThoroughBid crowned winners of the inaugural Racing League.”
Alongside the Team Manager, Team ThoroughBid boasts a stellar group, made up of Classic-winning trainers Richard Hannon and Andrew Balding, as well as last year’s Champion Flat Jockey Oisin Murphy. Sean Levey is very familiar with Richard Hannon’s horses, riding out every morning at the yard, and he’ll be joined by Hayley Turner, who is the first female jockey to ride over 100 winners, completing a formidable team line-up.
Team ThoroughBid trainer, Richard Hannon, commented: “We’re delighted to partner with Team ThoroughBid, they have great ambition and will be another positive addition to the racing community. We are looking forward to trying to win the Racing League with them this year!”
Racing League kicks-off at Newcastle Racecourse on Thursday 29 July. Each of the 12 teams will be made up of 2-4 trainers working together with three jockeys, stable staff and a squad of 30 horses. As well as Newcastle, the teams will compete at Lingfield Park, Royal Windsor and Doncaster Racecourses. Each of the series’ 36 handicap races are for horses rated 0-90, each with a total prize pot of £50,000. Total prize money on offer across the six meetings totals £2 million, and it looks set to go to the wire and be an incredibly exciting series.
Oli Harris, Racing League’s CMO, commented: “We are thrilled that Racing League is ThoroughBid’s first sponsorship in British Racing since its launch last week. Like so many of our team partners, ThoroughBid is a challenger brand in its space, and is another example of a young, ambitious business looking to Racing League to help it make a real impact. ThoroughBid has a strong team on all fronts, and will be one to watch over the coming weeks.”
