Program Has Attracted Out Of State Horses For Both Santa Anita & Del Mar
Del Mar Press Release
ARCADIA, Calif.—Santa Anita’s popular “Ship & Win” program, a proven mechanism designed to attract out of state horses for the past several years, will be back in effect for the track’s traditional Classic Meeting, which opens on Tuesday, Dec. 26.
The program, which has bolstered equine inventory on a year-round basis at both Santa Anita and Del Mar, will provide eligible shippers with $4,000 guaranteed for their first start (first-time starters excluded) as well additional bonus money in excess of listed purses.
For those Ship & Win horses finishing first through fifth on dirt, they will receive a 50 percent bonus and those finishing first through fifth on turf will get a 40 percent bonus in addition to regular purse money. These bonuses are applicable for one start only.
“The Ship and Win program is now well known throughout the country and we’re hoping it will continue to attract significant numbers of horses,” said Jason Egan, Santa Anita Director of Racing and Racing Secretary. “We obviously have a great facility at which to race and train and we feel we’ve got the best turf racing in America at this time of the year, which provides tremendous incentives for those considering stabling here in Southern California year-round.”
