The Stronach group have already announced possible plans to move The Pegasus Stakes, after the inaugural running this year at Gulfstream Park, to sister track Santa Anita. Santa Anita is larger and better suited to handle the major event.
The Pegasus statue, a symbol of the race, will remain at Gulfstream at least for now. It is simply not cost effective if even plausible to move it.
I always wondered why Frank Stronach built the new Gulfstream so small. They seemed to take it out of consideration for The Breeders’ Cup and other major horse events. There have already been complaints from race fans and Gulfstream Park regulars about cost prohibitive pricing for seats and access to the inaugural event for smaller and everyday players. I hear attendees will be restricted to their specific areas with no access to other areas of the track.
That aside, the Pegasus Stakes is shaping up to be all we could have hoped for on the racetrack.
