There was a lot of hype surrounding Dornoch, brother of last year’s Kentucky Derby winner, Mage. He earned one of the highest speed figures for any juvenile in 2023, but in 2024, his performances have left questions as to whether he’s made the progression necessary to stay at the top of his class. His most recent race, a 4thplace in the Grade 1 Blue Grass Stakes, left much to be desired; however, that was not truly indicative of his ability as he was purposely taken out of his preferred running style.

Laura Pugh and Ashley Tamulonis break down Dornoch’s past performances and draw their own conclusions as to whether Dornoch is worth a win bet or should be left out of the top spot on all tickets.

Like Track Phantom, Dornoch lost much of his luster after a disappointing run in the Grade 1 Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland. He has the opportunity to improve here, but Laura believes that there is too much working against Dornoch to use him as a top selection. Ashley, on the other hand, believes he has the raw talent to make up for his rail draw and the other speed in the field. So, what is your take? Is Dornoch a pass or play?
