Arcadia, CA- Shancelot ridden by Emisael Jaramillo gunned right out of the gate and set the early fractions with a zippy quarter in 21.8 controlling the pace the entire way. Omaha Beach under Mike Smith slipped in behind him in the stretch to overtake Shancelot on the inside by a head at the wire. Smith said, “He’s a throwback to a classic horse, I put myself into position right behind the leader.”
Trainer Richard Mandella said after the race, “He does this for us all the time, he got a little fresh and hot going into the gate, it took us two weeks to make a sprinter out of him.” Asked whats next for Omaha Beach? Mandella stated; “Were going to the Breeders Cup”
According to Equibase Omaha Beach finished the 6 furlong race in 1:08.79 going off as the second betting choice in the race paying $7.20 to win.
Jockey Mike Smith said after the race that Omaha Beach is “Bigger and Stronger” than he was before.
“He worked great the other day, and he ran just like he worked.”
