CHESAPEAKE CITY, Md.— Northview Stallion Station’s powerful roster will be available for inspection during an Open House on Saturday, December 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Chesapeake City, Md. Preparing for the upcoming breeding season are the Mid-Atlantic region’s current top-ranked general, first-crop and third-crop sires, young studs ENGAGE and GALAWI (IRE), and new arrival TRUE VALOUR (IRE), a multiple graded/group winner with a fantastic European pedigree.

True Valour wins the 2019 G2 City of Hope Mile (Benoit Photo)

A sizzling miler, TRUE VALOUR (IRE) retires after stakes success on both sides of the Atlantic. A son of world record-setting 2-year-old sire Kodiac, he boasts an international pedigree of champions, classic winners and speed, and is free of Northern Dancer and Mr. Prospector in his first three generations. The turf sprinter was on the board in 15 stakes (nine group/graded), ran a mile in 1:32.82 when winning the Gr. 2 City of Hope S. at Santa Anita and, after more than a year off, returned a stakes winner at Laurel and followed with a Grade 1 placing, and a photo finish with superstar Golden Pal at Saratoga.

Engage wins the 2017 G3 Futurity (NYRA/Coglianese)

ENGAGE offers pure speed and a direct line to the nation’s four-time leading sire Into Mischief. A graded stakes winner at 2 and 4, he is the first true sprinter to retire to Northview in years and represents the highly successful pedigree cross of Into Mischief with Speightstown mares – the same cross that has produced Grade 1-winning sprinters Mia Mischief and Mischevious Alex, and Grade 1-placed Make Mischief from 18 foals to race. He was the region’s busiest freshman sire in 2022, covering 71 mares.

Galawi breaks his maiden at Belmont Park June 27, 2021 (NYRA/Coglianese)

GALAWI (IRE) offers a peerless world-class pedigree as a son of the world’s most successful international sire, Dubawi (Ire) – whose more than 250 stakes winners include the winners of five Breeders’ Cup races over the past two years – out of a Group 1-winning millionaire half-sister to the incomparable Goldikova (Ire). A stakes-caliber runner who was retired early due to injury, GALAWI (IRE) descends from generations of champions and Group 1 winners from the marvelously successful French stud nurtured by Jacques Wertheimer, and in recent decades by his sons. GALAWI (IRE)’s female line leads directly to Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Gold River (Fr).

Great Notion (Photo courtesy of Northview Stallions)

Maryland’s Stallion of the Year every year since 2016, GREAT NOTION is having his best year yet in 2022, with progeny earnings exceeding $4 million to rank as the region’s top stallion. FILLE D’ESPRIT continued GREAT NOTION’s Maryland Million streak by winning the 2022 Maryland Million Distaff, giving him at least one winner on a Maryland Million card 13 years in a row.

Golden Lad (Photo courtesy of Northview Stallions)

GOLDEN LAD led the region as a first-crop, second-crop and third-crop sire, and now ranks in the top five among general sires in 2022. He has nearly 16% stakes horses per starters in his first crop, and is the sire of HELLO BEAUTIFUL, an eight-time stakes winner of nearly $600,000 named a Maryland-bred champion in 2021.

Propelling up the Mid-Atlantic sire rankings, third-crop sire UNCLE LINO is third among active sires on the general sires list, with half as many runners! His 12 stakes performers in three crops include 2022 stakes winners TACTICAL PAJAMAS.

MADEFROMLUCKY, the millionaire son of champion Lookin At Lucky out of a full sister to Tapit, got a stakes winner out of the gate, when EPIC LUCK won in his first crop, and has sired a stakes performer in his second crop.

HOPPERTUNITY, the richest horse to enter stud in the region with more than $4.7 million in earnings, has gotten off to a quick start at stud, ranking first among freshman sires while represented by undefeated MIDNIGHT PARADE, who topped a HOPPERTUNITY stakes exacta with Pachelbel in Parx’s Imply S.

Irish War Cry (Photo courtesy of Northview Stallions)

IRISH WAR CRY, a top-class racehorse with great presence, beautiful balance and an impressive physique by the mighty Curlin, was undefeated at 2 and won stakes at 3 and 4. His first runners in 2022 include first-time out winners Princess Chessie and Celtic Tiger.

ECLIPTICALSPRALINE is from the immediate family champion Cascapedia and has the same A++ Ecliptical/Tri Jet cross as stakes winner Exclusive Rosette, the second dam of American Pharoah. He offers the renowned sire line of champion Raise a Native, through Triple Crown sire Exclusive Native, with a pedigree free of Northern Dancer.

Northview’s stallion roster offers plenty of options for a breeder and, with the breeding season fast approaching, a chance to start making mating plans. Light fare and refreshments will be available.
