Nominations Released for Grade 1 Ricoh Woodbine Mile

TORONTO— Woodbine Entertainment today released the list of nominees for its upcoming Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series “Win and You’re In” races on Saturday, September 16 at Woodbine Racetrack.

The Grade 1 Ricoh Woodbine Mile, Grade 1 Johnnie Walker Natalma Stakes and Grade 1 bet365 Summer Stakes will put the spotlight on Woodbine’s world-renowned E.P. Taylor Turf Course.

The 27th edition of the $1 million Ricoh Woodbine Mile has attracted 18 nominees. 

Chad Brown leads all trainers with seven nominees to the Mile.

The Brown group is led by star mare In Italian (GB) (four-time Grade 1 winner), undefeated three-year-old Program Trading (GB) (winner of the Grade 1 Saratoga Derby Invitational) and multiple graded-stakes winning filly Whitebeam (GB) (winner of the Grade 1 Diana Stakes).

Godolphin, who won last year’s Mile with Modern Games, has nominated multiple stakes-winning five-year-old Master of The Seas (IRE).

Also, on the list of nominees is Set Piece (GB), winner of this year’s Grade 1 Arlington Million, for trainer Brad Cox.

The Woodbine-based nominees to this year’s Mile are highlighted by multiple graded stakes winners Shirl’s Speight for trainer Roger Attfield and War Bomber (IRE), winner of the recent Grade 2 King Edward, for trainer Norm McKnight.

The Grade 1 Johnnie Walker Natalma Stakes for two-year-old fillies and the Grade 1 bet365 Summer Stakes for two-year-olds will display top young talent, racing at a mile on the E.P. Taylor Turf.

Both events have 38 two-year-olds nominated and will go for a purse of $500,000.
