ELMONT, N.Y.— The New York Race Track Chaplaincy announced today that it will honor Len Green with the Marylou Whitney Award for his ongoing humanitarian support of the New York backstretch community at its 17th Annual Fundraising Brunch to be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at Saratoga National Golf Course in Saratoga Springs, NY.

“Len and his late wife Lois have silently, although generously, supported an increasing number of NY Chaplaincy vital initiatives and events over the course of the past several years,” said Ramón Dominguez, President of the Board of the NY Chaplaincy. “In doing so, they have set a tremendous example for others, and we are immensely grateful for this.”

“Lois and I have long admired the work and activities of the NY Chaplaincy and Chaplain Humberto Chavez and continually realized how the organization enhances the quality of life for the backstretch community all year long.” Green said. He feels it is an organization all owners should support.

Len is the Founder and Chairman of the New Jersey CPA firm, The Green Group specializing in tax, accounting and consulting especially in the Thoroughbred industry. They have more than 700 equine-related clients, including many of the top-rated partnerships, syndications, as well as fellow horse owners, breeders, trainers, consignors and jockeys.

D.J. Stable which is now managed by their son, Jon has won over 2,500 races ranging from claiming races to Breeders’ Cups. They campaigned Eclipse Champions Jaywalk and Wonder Wheel as well as 40 additional Graded Stakes Winners.

Len is a graduate of Rutgers University with a degree in Accounting, earned his Master’s Degree in Taxation with Honors from New York University and also graduated from the Harvard Business School’s Owner/President Management Program.

For more than 20 years, Len has been teaching Entrepreneurship at Babson College, which is rated the #1 college in Entrepreneurship in the U.S.

Individuals and organizations previously honored by the NY Chaplaincy have included Anne Campbell, Edgar Prado, Michael Dubb, Fay and David Donk, Marylou Whitney and John Hendrickson, Letty and Kiaran McLaughlin, Lisa and Kenny Troutt, Debbie and Terry Finley, The New York Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association, Irad Ortiz Jr., Andy Serling and, last year, Tracy and Todd Pletcher.

Each year, at the Brunch, the honoree is presented with a print by equine artist Tom Chapman. In August 2023, approximately 350 supporters of the NY Race Track Chaplaincy were in attendance.

The NY Race Track Chaplaincy serves the NY backstretch and farming communities of Belmont Park, Aqueduct Racetrack, and Saratoga Race Course providing enrichment programs for children, teens and women, social services, recreational and educational programming, and non-denominational religious services.
