HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Tonalist’s Shape and Cheermeister, each two-time graded-stakes winners over the winter, will meet for the first time in their careers when they return to Gulfstream Park for the $75,000 Hollywood Wildcat Friday, May 15.
The 1 1/16-mile Hollywood Wildcat drew a field of eight 3-year-old fillies led by the top pair, who will respectively break from Post 3 and 8 in a field of eight as co-top weights at 124 pounds. Post time for the first of 12 races is 1 p.m.
Slam Dunk Racing, Legacy Ranch Inc. and Doug Branham’s Tonalist’s Shape suffered her first loss in six career starts when she finished seventh last out in the Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2) March 28. The chestnut daughter of 2014 Belmont (G1) winner Tonalist won the Davona Dale (G2), Forward Gal (G3) and Hut Hut during the Championship Meet. Irad Ortiz Jr. is named to ride.
Teresa and David Palmer’s Cheermeister will be trying dirt for the first time after making five starts at the Championship Meet, winning the one-mile Wait a While in November and Sweetest Chant (G3) and Herecomesthebride (G3) in February, all on turf. Most recently, she was second by a neck in the Jan. 19 Sanibel Island. Jockey Emisael Jaramillo has the call.
Also entered are Dream Marie, third in the Davona Dale and sixth in the GP Oaks; Money Never Sleeps, coming off a starter optional win April 23; March 22 maiden winner Pleasant Orb; Up in Smoke, unbeaten in three starts making her stakes debut; Hall of Famer Shug McGaughey-trained Vigilantes Way; and Wanderlust.
