LOUISVILLE, Ky. (August 28, 2020) – TwinSpires handicapper Ed DeRosa is anticipating this year’s Kentucky Derby will feature the biggest favorite in nearly three decades.
DeRosa has released his early Morning Line odds for America’s Greatest Race, which predict what price each Derby contender will start the Run for the Roses on Sept. 5 at Churchill Downs.
The Barclay Tagg-trained Tiz The Law will go off at the short odds of 7-5, according to DeRosa. This would make the son of Constitution the biggest favorite since 1992, when an odds-on Arazi disappointed his supporters by finishing 8th.
DeRosa doesn’t expect Tiz The Law to follow in Arazi’s hoof prints.
“Tiz The Law is virtually bombproof and only bad luck is going to stand in the way of him and a Derby victory,” said DeRosa.
Should Tiz The Law start at 7-5 or below, it would make him the shortest price favorite, in a race with 19 runners or more, in American racing history.
“I’m going to wait for the draw before making my final Derby pick, but one thing is for certain, either Tiz The Law or Art Collector will have to win, or I’m not cashing a ticket.”
The Tommy Drury-trained Art Collector is an 8/1 equal second favorite with Honor A.P. on DeRosa’s odds sheet, while Authentic is rated a 10/1 chance. The rest of the field are marked at odds of 20/1 or longer.
