WILMINGTON, Del. — After winning the Blue Hen Stakes with ease a month ago, Imaginary Stable’s Jumping the Gun followed with a dominating win in the Delaware bred or certified restricted $117,750 Small Wonder Stakes at Delaware Park today.

With Julio Hernandez aboard, the 2-year-old daughter of Gun Runner, won by 3 3/4-lengths and returned $2.20 as the favorite in the field of six. The Kentucky-bred conditioned by Andrew Simoff covered the six furlongs in 1:11.42 over a fast main track. Doc’s Miracle, with Yedsit Hazlewood, finished second and it was another 2-lengths farther back to Thirst for Hope, with Carol Cedeno, in third.

Jumping the Gun has a career record of three wins from as many starts. In her first career outing, she broke her maiden by 1 1/2-lengths going five and a half furlongs at Delaware Park on July 3. She garnered $70,000 for her victory in the Small Wonder to raise her career earnings to $148,750.

“I felt confident right passed the 5/8ths pole,” said winning trainer Andrew Simoff. “I was a little nervous before the race with her being 1-to-9, but once she made that move, all of that went away. The last eighth, she just galloped which is good because it will keep her healthy.”
