Jose Ortiz and Luca Panici were both injured at Gulfstream Park and will miss some important riding engagements. Luca Panici fractured his collarbone when thrown from Terrible Tara in the 10th race on Friday after she hit the rail. Luca will have to miss rides on Sam F. Davis winner Sole Volante in the Tampa Bay Derby. That horse as of now is on the Kentucky Derby trail. He will also miss riding his stablemate Ete Indian in the Fountain of Youth. Florent Geroux has been named to ride both horses for Patrick Biancone.
Jose Ortiz was unseated by Atone during the post parade of the 3rd race on Saturday. he will be forced to miss riding Tacitus in the inaugural Saudi Cup of February 29th.
