Jockey Emisael Jaramillo Four Away from 1,000 in North America

April 28, 2020

Jockey Emisael Jaramillo moved to within four victories of 1000 North American wins while riding two winners on Sunday’s program at Gulfstream Park.

The 43-year-old native of Venezuela guided Erv’s Wench to a three-length victory in Race 8, a seven-furlong maiden special weight for 3-year-old fillies. He came right back to notch No. 996 aboard Roddick ($10) in Race 9, prevailing in a tight photo in the 1 1/16-mile $12,500 claiming race that was moved from turf to a sloppy main track.

Jaramillo rode more than 4000 winners in Venezuela, where he was a 13-time champion, before venturing to South Florida in 2015. He has ridden more than 200 winners in each of the last four years, primarily at Gulfstream and Gulfstream Park West.

@PastTheWire wow. I am thankful you took the time to provide such detail about an all time great horse and the tragedy of that final race.
