Irish War Cry Upsets Classic Empire In Holy Bull

February 5, 2017

Irish War Cry stamped himself a horse to watch, upsetting Classic Empire in The Holy Bull. Classic Empire was running back after his Breeders’ Cup Juvenile score and first time as a three-year old.

The two-year old Eclipse winner was washed out going in the gate, and didn’t look comfortable to me. He finished a weak third.

Irish War Cry was stretching out, and getting first time Lasix for Graham Motion. He took the lead and drew off with authority when it counted.

Gunnevera ran a troubled trip second, checking and losing momentum in the far turn, critical in the short finish line races at Gulfstream. Fact Finding, an undefeated contender for Todd Pletcher was a late scratch, likely by the vet.

Maybe the most important thing you get from Tracking Trips is the glimpse inside the mind of a guy who has been beating the game for over 50 years. Anyone can tip you on a horse and get lucky but as handicappers we should be trying to learn the art and science of handicapping.
