OCEANPORT, N.J. – Jockey Melissa Iorio was taken by ambulance to Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch for precautionary X-rays, according to Monmouth Park Medical Director Dr. Angelo Chinnici, after pitching forward onto the track when her horse stumbled at the start of Friday’s first race.

Chinnici said Iorio suffered “lacerations to the chin but there was no loss of consciousness.”

Iorio was aboard Summer Flower in post position 2 when the 3-year-old filly stumbled badly at the start, sending the rider forward. She fell into the path of the horse in post position 1, Me So Lucky.

Trainer Mike Dini said Summer Flower did not appear to suffer any injuries.

Iorio is tied for eighth in the Monmouth Park rider standings with eight wins from 95 starts.
