Saturday’s Monmouth-At-Meadowlands Feature
Tom Luicci/Monmouth Park
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Investment Mandate, stuck in mid-pack in the 10-horse field entering the stretch, took advantage of an opening along the rail to pass three horses late on the way to a neck victory in Saturday night’s featured $42,000 allowance during the Monmouth-at-Meadowlands meet.
A $525,000 yearling purchase trained by Chad Brown and owned by Klaravich Stables, the 3-year-old Kentucky-bred gelding won for the second time in four career starts. The son of Constitution broke his maiden at Monmouth Park on July 19 with a late flourish as well.
Ridden by Samy Camacho, Investment Mandate returned $7.60 to win as the second choice.
The winning time for the mile over a firm turf course was 1:35.76.
With Camacho saving ground early, Investment Mandate was unhurried through early fractions of :23.86, :47.47 and 1:11.51 until he was given his cue.
Investment Mandate passed both Luca’s Mischief and Dumb Money in deep stretch and then held off the late charge of 9-5 favorite Primed To Go. It was another half-length back to Dumb Money in third.
The boutique Monmouth-at-Meadowlands meet resumes next Friday with another all-turf, six-race card. First race post time is 7 p.m.
