High Five / Low Five
High Five!
Preakness weekend! We’re ready!
Low Five!
The Kentucky Derby TV coverage is for the birds. Multiple stations, switching channels, track feed blacked out, no live odds, limited coverage of the supporting stakes. Do Better! Oh yeah, NBC tell your broadcasters to do their homework! Joel Rosario does have a Kentucky Derby on his resume…
High Five!
A big HIGH FIVE to D. Wayne Lukas, Secret Oath and all the connections. The filly ran huge, and Lukas is a young 86. Not too bad! Another Kentucky Oaks for Lukas! HIGH FIVE Rich Strike and all his connections. He won the Kentucky Derby after Lukas scratched his horse. and got him in. Then he tried to kill the pony….
High Five!
It is officially Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby time….and we are ready!
Low Five!
We all mourn the tragic loss of exercise rider Carrie Witt. We all lost one of our racetrack family. RIP young Carrie.
High Five!
HIGH FIVE jockey Jon Court. Still riding winners! Jon won the cool one mil Oaklawn Handicap aboard Last Samurai for Dallas Stewart and the Hortons. Congratulations to all but big HIGH FIVE to Jon doing it like a young man!
Low Five!
RIP Midnight Bourbon who reportedly died suddenly in his stall in trainer Steve Asmussen’s barn at Churchill Downs Sunday morning. DRF quoted Steve Asmussen as saying “an acute gastrointestinal situation.” The KHRC and the Kentucky Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory are investigating the death. Midnight Bourbon had most recently raced in both the Saudi Cup in Saudi Arabia and the Dubai World Cup in Dubai. He had worked Sunday morning, and apparently became ill after the workout and passed around 10:30 or 11:00 AM
Low Five!
The late odds changes regardless of whether they go up or down is really getting worse and out of hand. It is not only the odds but the pools also. There is a lot of CAW money being dumped late into the pools. Over 88K came into the superfecta pool at Keeneland for the 5th race after the gate opened. This followed 6K and 17K increases while they were loading the horses. That just has to be CAW money, and it represented over 40% of the pool. Think about that….
High Five!
High Five Jackie’s Warrior, Jackie’s back as the champ takes the Count Fleet at Oaklawn Park giving trainer Steve Asmussen another win in the race. High Five Regal Glory who has really blossomed for trainer Chad Brown and owner Peter Brant. This game mare gave Chad another win in the Grade 1 Jenny Wiley at Keeneland.
