Get Spooled captures Silks’ Race of the Week on Thursday, Aug. 3 (NYRA/Coglianese)

It was another huge week for the exciting Game of Silks. Last Thursday was not only the Silks’ Race of the Week (more on that below), but it was also the first-ever ‘Silks Track Meetup’ at Saratoga, which was a huge success. If you weren’t able to attend, do not worry as more events are being planned. Also, Silks was thrilled to recently announce Ron Luniewski as their new President and COO. A big congrats to Ron who was formerly the CEO of YouBet and the President of Expressbet – he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience.
Race #1 at Saratoga on Thursday was Silks’ Race of the Week. It provided quite a thrill as #2 Get Spooled and jockey Jose Lezcano broke well before working their way up to grab the lead on the rail going into the first turn of this 1 1/16 mile race on the turf. Get Spooled, trained by the Hall of Famer, Bill Mott, set modest fractions (50.35 seconds for the half mile and 1:15.71 for six furlongs) and left enough gas in the tank to hold off fast closing Dancing Mischief to score by ¾ of a length. He is still available at the Game of Silks, so it really proves that there are many excellent horses just ready and waiting to be minted. Below is a list of the majority of the races last week that carried a purse of $50,000 or greater. Remember, there were many other races which earned rewards for Silks owners and they also earn rewards for strong finishes, even if their horse does finish first. As you can see, Charbo again led the way with three wins at this $50,000+ level and Alpha Racing, One Eyed Dog Stables and Vshakerfarms each won two of these big races – congratulations to all of these lucky owners. With that, my coveted ‘Silks’ Owner of the Week’ goes to Vshakerfarms, as one of their two wins came in Colonial Down’s $150,000 Hickory Tree Stakes (Race #7 on Saturday). Well done, Vshake!
