HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla.— Frank Fletcher homebred Frank’s Rockette made up for a no-show effort in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint when dominating in the $125K Sugar Swirl (G3) at Gulfstream Park on Dec. 31.
Not wavering from her 4-5 morning line favoritism come post time, Frank’s Rockette was away well from post position four and gunned for the lead, stakes-winning Edie Meeny Miny Mo knocking heads with her from the get-go. Frank’s Rockette did not let her foe get by, however, and set the pace on the rail. Following a quarter in :22.06, she began to extend her advantage under Luis Saez and was one and a half lengths in front through a half mile in 44.74.
From there, Frank’s Rockette shook clear from her four rivals, her leading margin totaling six lengths approaching the eighth pole. Steadily widening after five furlongs in 57.05, the five-year-old daughter of Into Mischief crossed the wire 12 ¾ lengths in front. The final time for the six-furlong dirt sprint was a sharp 1:09.63.
Hard-knocking Joyful Cadence won the duel for place over Dream Supreme winner Coppelia. Restofthestory, the longest shot on the board at 37-1, was fourth. Edie Meeny Miny Mo rounded out the order of finish. My Destiny was scratched.
Trained by Hall of Fame conditioner Bill Mott, Frank’s Rockette secured her tenth career win and fourth graded stakes win when capturing the Sugar Swirl. Alongside her ten wins, the bay mare has been second nine times and third three times from 25 starts. In total, she has amassed earnings of $1,224,808.
