WILMINGTON, Del. — Averill Racing, Two Eight Racing and Anthony Mattera’s R Disaster notched her first career stake victory in the $100,000 Rehoboth Stakes at Delaware Park today.
With Jorge Ruiz aboard, the Florida-bred trained by Saffie Joseph Jr. won by 6 ½-lengths and returned $3.00 as the favorite in the field of six. The 4-year-old daughter of Awesome Slew covered the six furlongs in 1:09.83 over a fast main track. Miss Harriett, with Forest Boyce, finished second. It was another 2-lengths farther back, to Drifaros with Jamie Rodriguez, in third.
R Disaster raised her career record to five wins and four seconds from nine starts with earnings of $320,180. This year, she won her 2025 debut by 3-lengths in a Gulfstream Park allowance on January 18. She followed with a second, beaten a neck, in the Grade III Herecomesthebride Stakes at Gulfstream Park on March 8. On May 4, she ran second beaten a neck in the Grade III Vagrancy at Belmont at the Big A.
“At the 3/8ths pole, I had a lot of horse in my hands,” said winning jockey Jorge Ruiz. “She was strong, and she just got stronger. I knew at that point; she was going to be really tough. She was super today.”
