Fall Stars Weekend kicks off meet at Keeneland

Potential Fields: Casa Creed, Somelikeithotbrown, Letruska, Malathaat, Sconsin, Technical Analysis, Smooth Like Straight

LEXINGTON, Ky.—Friday is opening day of Keeneland’s 17-day Fall Meet which runs through Saturday, Oct. 29. Fields continue to take shape for Fall Stars Weekend, which will offer 11 stakes worth $5.45 million.

Nine of the races are Breeders’ Cup Challenge tests (*) that award the winners fees-paid berths into corresponding races at the 39th World Championships, which will be held Nov. 4-5 at Keeneland.

Post time for the first race each day is 1 p.m. ET. No racing Mondays and Tuesdays.

According to Keeneland Stakes Coordinator Allison De Luca, here are the possible starters for the stakes:

Winchell Thoroughbreds’ Wicked Halo, winner of the Prioress (G2) at Saratoga in her most recent start, worked a half-mile over a fast track in :51.20 for trainer Steve Asmussen in preparation for a possible run in the Lexus Raven Run (G2) on Oct. 22.

Also working this morning for Asmussen and Winchell Thoroughbreds was Red Route One, who worked a half-mile in :51.20. Red Route One is considered a possible starter in Sunday’s Castle & Key Bourbon (G2).

Another possible Castle & Key Bourbon starter to work Monday morning was Susan Moulton’s Andthewinneris, who covered 5 furlongs in 1:00 for trainer Wayne Catalano.
