DUBAI (November 10, 2019)—Stable applications for the 2020 Dubai World Cup Carnival close on November 11 for its $12.74 million program. The international showcase opens on January 2 and runs for ten weeks, including nine consecutive Thursdays through February 27. The final night will be Super Saturday, March 7, 2020, a seven-race, $2.7 million dress rehearsal meeting for the world’s richest race day, the $35 million Dubai World Cup meeting on March 28, 2020.
Among its 61 Thoroughbred fixtures, the DWC Carnival will host two Group 1s, 10 Group 2s, 10 Group 3s and 10 Listed races along with four Purebred Arabian pattern races made up of three Group 1s and one Group 2.
Handicaps are open to horses rated 90 and upward, with purses ranging from $135,000-$175,000, while 11 route and sprint conditioned affairs for sophomores on both dirt and turf—featuring two Group 3s and three Listed fixtures—lead to the $2.5 million UAE Derby (Group 2) on Dubai World Cup night.
The 2019 DWC Carnival saw horses from Australia, Denmark, France, Ireland, South Korea, Sweden, Turkey, UK and USA ship in to win or place in its races. Be sure to check out the brochure on the 2020 Dubai World Cup and nomination applications.
