Del Mar Dreaming with Tiz The Bomb

July 6, 2021

Kenny McPeek has nominated Tiz The Bomb as one of the best juveniles in his care after the  Phoenix Thoroughbreds owned runner recorded a wide-margin success at Ellis Park on Friday.

Dreams of the 2021 Breeders’ Cup and the 2022 Kentucky Derby are well and truly alive after the son of Hit It A Bomb caught the eye by running out a fourteen and a quarter length winner of a  Maiden Special Weight. Stretched out to a mile for his second start, the colt left his 5f debut behind  to record a sensational success and cause quite a stir on the owner’s social media pages.

Time will tell just how good the form from that performance turns out to be, but one thing is clear,  it’s not just the good people of Twitter and Instagram who hold a very high opinion of the colt.

“He’s right near the top,” said the McPeek when asked about Tiz The Bomb’s ranking among his juveniles. “He’s a total pro already, he understands his job, and I think he’s going to be versatile;  he’ll be just as good on turf.

“He’s trained like a good horse from the beginning. His first race was a little awkward, he didn’t get off well and never really recovered. Since we got him stretch out now I think we are going to have a  whole lot of fun with him and he’s a horse that could take us to the Breeders’ Cup and fingers  crossed the Kentucky Derby.”

Some lofty ambitions for sure and some of those will get tested in the colt’s subsequent few runs with the handler outlining a clear path towards the first weekend in November in Del Mar.

“I may run him in the Ellis Park Juvenile, or I may wait for the Iroquois at Churchill Downs in mid-September. I think the further he goes, the better he’ll be. If we can get him to the Iroquois and  then get him back for the Futurity Stake at Keeneland; should he run well in both of those, then the  Breeders’ Cup is right in front of us.”
