David Jacobson to Have West Coast String

November 21, 2017

David Jacobson has said he will have about 20 head at Santa Anita for their upcoming meet. His son Howard will be running the West Coast string along with former Bobby Frankel assistant Humberto Ascanio.

Some newer racing fans may not know Jacobson’s ties with Bobby Frankel go back quite a ways. David’s father Howard ” Buddy” Jacobson was a leading trainer in New York for some time and Bobby was his assistant.

Buddy was an aggressive claiming trainer much like his son David is. Bobby got his start there and presumably learned a lot. Buddy was ultimately convicted of murder in New York and after an escape and capture in none other than California, passed away in New York state prison.

David takes a lot of heat, but like a Timex he takes a licking and keeps on ticking. David himself had been ruled off New York racing in the past for allegations of abusing a horse named Hugable Tom back in 1981. Since his reinstatement he has won a lot of races including turning $16,000 claim Stallwalkin Dude into a consistent stakes performer and winner and the likely favorite in this week’s Fall Highweight.
