HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – After winning his fourth race Saturday aboard Con Compania in the $70,000 Mr. Jordan at Gulfstream Park, jockey Emisael Jaramillo said, “To win races you have to make quick decisions, and I made a decision at the beginning of this race.”

The decision wasn’t a difficult one for Jaramillo. “When no one wanted the lead, I went to the lead,” he said. And it paid off when Con Compania won the Mr. Jordan by a length while covering a mile track in 1:36.02.

Con Compania, a 5-year-old gelding who raced last year in Chile, had a record of 2-1-2 in his six U.S. starts, all coming in sprints. Trainer Amador Sanchez was eager to get the son of Awesome Patriot around two turns.

“Since sometime ago, I was telling the owners that I wanted to run him over more distance, and today the decision awarded us,” Sanchez said.

Con Compania and Jaramillo sailed through fractions of :24.41 and :46.75 while Classic of Course challenged around the turn. Entering the stretch Con Compania had plenty left to hold off a late-running Lightning Tones. Classic of Course held the show.

Con Compania returned $12.20.

The Mr. Jordan is named after the graded stakes-winning son of Kantharos trained by Eddie Plesa Jr. who won 10 races and earned nearly $900,000.

Jaramillo’s other winners came aboard Skellig Michael ($3.60) in Race 5, Pure Class ($6.20) in Race 7, and Mythical ($2.80) in Race 8, the $200,000 Susan’s Girl.

Sunday’s Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Estimated at $100,000

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 went unsolved Saturday for the second racing day following a mandatory payout at Gulfstream Park, where the popular multi-wager’s jackpot pool is expected to grow to an estimated $100,00 Sunday.

The Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 6-11, featuring three turf events in Races 7, 9 and 11. The three turf events will also makeup Sunday’s $3 Tropical Turf Pick 3 sequence.

A field of nine 3-year-olds and up was assembled for Race 7, a five-furlong maiden special weight dash. Mike Repole’s Hot Lead, the 9-5 morning-line favorite who closed to fifth following a slow start in his June 20 debut at Aqueduct for Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher, is scheduled to make his first start for trainer Jose D’Angelo in his return. D’Angelo-trained Itza Law, a son of Tiz the Law, is slated to make his debut. Gerald Bennett-trained Maximus Cat is set to make his debut on turf after finishing second in his three most recent starts (one on dirt and two on Tapeta).

A well-balanced field of 11 will contest Race 9, a 1 1/16-mile race for $17,500 claimers that are non-winners of two lifetime. A mile maiden special weight for 3-year-olds and up will close out the sequence in Race 1. Live Oak Plantation’s Souper Document, a 3-year-old son of Constitution trained by Hall of Famer Mark Casse, will move to the turf after finishing second on debut in his recent debut. Casse is also represented in an eight horse field by Live Oak Plantation’s Our Souper Hero, who has finished second twice in three starts, makes his return off a five-month layoff.

In the Rainbow 6, the jackpot pool is paid out only when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool. When there is a mandatory payout, the entire pool is disbursed to the bettor or bettors with the most winners in the popular wager’s six-race sequence.
