Breeders’ Cup International Report

Live In The Dream (IRE) (Turf Sprint) was the first international runner out on the Santa Anita main track Wednesday morning and did a light canter. He was once again ridden by race-day jockey Sean Kirrane.

The Adrian Murray trained duo Valiant Force (Juvenile Turf Sprint) and Cuban Thunder (IRE) (Juvenile) were joined by the Japanese big race contenders Ushba Tesoro (JPN) (Classic) and Win Marilyn (JPN) (Filly & Mare Turf) on the main track.

A large contingent of the European runners entered the turf track shortly before 7.30 a.m. Frankie Dettori once again rode Inspiral (GB) (Filly & Mare Turf).

“She felt good. I struggled with the low sun at the end of the stretch, so it was hard to see exactly where we were going and who was around us but luckily, she seemed to know where to go so everything was fine,” Dettori said.

Mosthadaf (IRE) (Turf) joined Inspiral on the turf in the hands of race-day jockey Jim Crowley.

“Mosthadaf just did an easy canter, one lap round on the turf,” Crowley said. “He felt fantastic, very happy with him. He was his usual vocal self, so all is good. Regarding the race, he’s drawn in gate nine but there’ll be plenty of pace in the race, so I’m not too concerned about that really. At this stage, we couldn’t be happier with him.”

Givemethebeatboys (IRE) (Juvenile Turf Sprint) cantered on the turf in the hands of race-day jockey Shane Foley.

“All is well with Givemethebeatboys,” Foley said. “The team is very happy with him, and he felt good this morning. I’m very much looking forward to the race on Friday.”

Big Evs (IRE) (Juvenile Turf Sprint) was possibly the biggest training eye catcher coming from the international contenders so far this week.

Race-day jockey Tom Marquand flew into California Tuesday alongside his wife Hollie Doyle.

“Big Evs felt absolutely fantastic this morning to be perfectly honest,” Marquand said. “It looks like he has taken the travel really well and got over any tiredness he may have had over the weekend. He’s settled into his surroundings good. He spun round the bend and felt balanced which was reassuring as obviously on Friday it will be his first time running round a bend which will be tough, but he felt like he cottoned onto it pretty quick so hopefully he can show that trademark gate speed that he’s shown in the UK over here and get us in a good early position and fingers crossed he can go well.”

Trainer Adrian McGuinness was trackside to watch his filly Tiger Belle (IRE) (Juvenile Turf Sprint) train on the main track.

“Everyone is very happy with Tiger Belle,” McGuinness said. “She cannot be the most straightforward of fillies at times, but she’s traveled over very well, and her training has been good. Hopefully between now and Friday we get a clean run of things and I’m hopeful she’ll run a big race.”

Charlie Appleby was trackside alongside jockey William Buick to oversee Master of The Seas (IRE) (Mile) and With The Moonlight (IRE) (Filly & Mare Turf).

“All is well with both horses,” Appleby said. “The team has been happy with them so I’m looking forward to the races on Saturday. We understand how hard it is to have winners over here as the races are so competitive, but we’ll give it our best shot and see how we get on.”

Aidan O’Brien stood his 10 horses in the gate this morning, loading then backing out. Broome (IRE) (Turf) once again led the string who all did a light canter in military order once again.

Joseph O’Brien was trackside to watch Lumiere Rock (IRE) (Filly & Mare Turf) exercise on the main track.

“It’s great to be back in California for the Breeders’ Cup,” Joseph O’Brien said. “Lumiere Rock is pleasing the team and she looked in good shape this morning on the main track. It’s a very tough race but she comes here in good form, so we’ll have to see what happens on Saturday.”

Porta Fortuna (IRE) (Juvenile Fillies Turf) once again caught the eye on the main track.

Saeed bin Suroor’s duo of Mawj (IRE) (Mile) and White Moonlight, who runs on the undercard Friday, both looked in fine shape. They were the last of the international runners on the main track having a light canter.
