BERKELEY, Calif.—After two respectable efforts sprinting on the Golden Gate Fields Tapeta main track, chestnut filly Charlene’s Dream scored a gate to wire win in her turf route debut, the $75,000 Pike Place Dancer Stakes for 2-year-olds fillies at Golden Gate Fields on Saturday afternoon.

Sent off as the 9-2 third choice in the wagering, Charlene’s Dream took command on the front end early on while pressed by eventual fourth place finisher Tour Queen. Charlene’s Dream shook off the aforementioned foe around the far turn, was challenged by the two favorites Sohoand Angiolleta in upper stretch, turned them away in deep stretch, and hit the wire a length and a quarter in front. Evin Roman, who won three races on the Saturday card, was aboard for the winning ride.

Charlene’s Dream paid $11.40 to win, $4.60 to place, and $2.20 to show. 2-1 runner up finisher Angiolleta paid $3.00 to place and $2.10 to show. Soho, sent off as the 4-5 favorite, stalked the pace, battled for the lead in upper stretch before ultimately fading to third in the final furlong. She returned $2.10 to show.

With the Pike Place Dancer Stakes victory, Charlene’s Dream improved her lifetime record to two wins and one second from three lifetime starts. She has banked $69,200. Trained by Ed Moger Jr. and owned by Domeyko Taylor LP, Charlene’s Dream was purchased at the 2023 Fasig Tipton Midatlantic Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale. Charlene’s Dream, bred in Texas by Eric and Randi Moreau-Sipiere, is by grade 2 turf route winner Qurbaan out of the War Front mare Clara Kelly.

Live racing resumes on Sunday at Golden Gate. First post is 1:15 PM.
