LOUISVILLE, Ky.— Rigney Racing’s Buchu completed her final preparations prior to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (GI) and worked an easy half-mile in :50 Saturday morning at Churchill Downs.
Trained by Phil Bauer, Buchu had jockey Martin Garcia in the irons for the move. Bauer was on his way to New York to watch Xigera compete in Saturday’s Mother Goose (GII).
“All we were looking for was something uneventful and easy,” Bauer said. “It looks like that’s what we got. So, all good. She’ll ship to California on Monday.”
Buchu is a product of Rigney’s homebred program. The daughter of Triple Crown winner Justify is out of the Galileo (IRE) mare Flowering Peach, who competed in Europe for trainer Aidan O’Brien.
Buchu is a two-time winner from five starts. She qualified for the Juvenile Fillies Turf by winning the Jessamine Stakes (GII) at Keeneland less than two weeks after she broke her maiden at Churchill Downs.
