Countdown Begins to the 2024 Grand National and Classics

February 29, 2024

One of the highlights of the UK National Hunt season takes place at Aintree in Liverpool on April 13. It’s the Grand National which is a race that gamblers from all around the world love to place a wager on.

This historic race has been thrilling the horse racing world since the late 19th century. It attracts bets from people who might not place another wager until the next time it’s held. Picking the winner really does give you bragging rights over your friends.

It may be taking place in England but it has a worldwide appeal. Gamblers regularly pay visits to https://twin.com/ to check out the latest odds on horse racing and other sports.

Maximus is the favorite with most bookmakers to win this year’s race. The Willie Mullins trained contender was a winner at Fairyhouse in Ireland in February. One big question that has to be answered though is can he be effective over this distance.

The 2023 winner was Corach Rambler who also won at last year’s Cheltenham Festival. An extra 10 pounds will be on his back this year and that’ll make life a bit more difficult.

Vanillier is the current second favorite to win the 2024 Grand National. His position at the top of the betting is down to the fact last year the Gavin Cromwell trained runner finished second in this race. That proves that he can last out the four miles two and a half furlongs distance and get over the tough fences.

Only a couple of pounds extra weight has to be carried this year. However, Vanillier has only ever won one race and that was three years ago.

April also sees the flat racing season get underway.  The opening weeks will see several of the top two-year horses from last year preparing for the first two Classics that take place in early May.

The current favorite for the 2000 Guineas is City of Troy who is trained by the hugely successful Aidan O’Brien. He won all three of his races as a two-year-old and a couple were at Newmarket where the 2000 Guineas will be run.

CIty of Troy won two Group races to show just what massive potential he has. His final race of 2023 saw him win the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes making all and winning by three and a half furlongs. This runner is also favorite to win the Epsom Derby in June.

The 1000 Guineas is a much more open race. Current favorite is Opera Singer and also trained by Aidan O’Brien. Her debut was marred by being hampered but went on to win three races last year. The season was signed off by a Group 1 win in Longchamp and could easily give O’Brien even more success in 2024.
