Flightline, an American thoroughbred racehorse who retired undefeated after six starts, was rated as the world’s highest racehorse in 2022, with a mark of 139. This foal was bred at Gainesway Farm near Lexington and was undefeated in his six career starts. These include four Grade 1 wins—the Travers Stakes, Curlin Stakes, Jockey Club Gold Cup, and Breeders’ Cup Classic.

3. Arrogate

The success of Arrogate was unprecedented as he became the richest North American racehorse in history at his peak, with earnings totaling over $17 million. His career record included six Grade 1 races, including the 2016 Breeders’ Cup Classic and the 2017 Dubai World Cup.

Arrogate’s success was not limited to just on-track performance; he also earned numerous awards off-track. In 2016 he won the Travers Stakes, one of the most prestigious races in North America, and set an even older record at the 2017 Pegasus World Cup. 

His final race occurred on July 28th in San Diego, California, where he finished 9th in his last before being retired to stud duty at Juddmonte Farm in Lexington, Kentucky.

4. Black Caviar

Competing from 2009 to 2013, Black Caviar was undefeated in 25 races, including 15 Group Ones. Bel Esprit sired this amazing horse out of the Desert Sun mare. Black Caviar’s performances earned her a world record Rating of 130 for sprinting that still stands today.

Her iconic royal blue and yellow colors—the colors of her owners—easily identify Black Caviar while she cruises down the track. She won many races, including the 2011 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in England, and her winnings amounted to over $7 million!

This 11-year-old chestnut thoroughbred racehorse won the American Triple Crown and the Breeders’ Cup Classic in 2015. Born in 2012 and retired from racing in 2015, American Pharaoh was also a qualifier for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1). 

His legacy is a testament to what can be accomplished with hard work and dedication. American Pharoah also stayed healthy enough to race for three years, which is no small feat for a horse contending at such an extreme level for so long.
