Belmont Pass or Play: Resilience vs. Mindframe

June 7, 2024

Resilience (Mary Eddy) and Mindframe (Coglianese/NYRA)

By Laura Pugh and Ashley Tamulonis

Earlier this week, we pointed out that the last time there was a faceoff between the Kentucky Derby and Preakness in the Belmont was 11 years ago… and neither one of those horses wound up wearing the carnations. In 2013, Palace Malice, who was also a Kentucky Derby graduate, rebounded from his Derby debacle to land his first grade one win.

Fast forwarding to the present day, we have ourselves a rubber match between Mystik Dan (tell me why I keep nearly typing Wise Dan) and Seize the Grey. However, while both are respectable horses with plenty of talent, this is a very evenly matched race. It wouldn’t surprise us at all to see a repeat of 2013, where neither takes the crown…so, with that in mind, who should you use as your longshot?

Laura makes an argument for 10-1 Resilience, who was 6th in the Run for the Roses, while Ashley argues for 7-2 Mindframe, who is undefeated in two career starts and a new shooter to the Triple Crown.
