It may seem a little early to be talking about the new shooters for The 2017 Belmont Stakes, but three horses are on my radar early. One is West Coast, a smart winner yesterday at Santa Anita for the always dangerous Bob Baffert. I thought this horse would be dangerous in Baltimore if he went that route. He didn’t and stayed home. Bob is even more dangerous when he is patient.
Another is Colonist for Jerry Hollendorfer, also always dangerous. He runs against older today at Santa Anita and I suspect if he runs big he will be under consideration for The 2017 Belmont Stakes.
Epicharis who may get no respect ran against a closers bias in The UAE Derby, and lost to Thunder Snow who refused in The Kentucky Derby. Epicharis ran huge that night, and we can’t really gauge Thunder Snow off what happened the first Saturday in May.
All these horses seem capable of making some noise in three weeks. I’ve had my eye on all three and they can run. Stay tuned!
