Jose Ortiz Rides Four Winners, Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Guaranteed at $100,000
HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla.– Ken and Sarah Ramsey’s Beechnut Trophy and jockey Jose Ortiz turned a most adventurous trip into victory in Wednesday’s featured optional claiming allowance at Gulfstream Park.
Five-wide at the top of the stretch, the homebred daughter of Real Solution would end up prevailing in the 7 ½-furlong event on turf for 3-year-old fillies with a furious rail rally.
“I was a little wide, but I thought I was following the right horse [Thataint Tooshabby], who won her last two,” Ortiz said. “She was going pretty easy on the outside approaching the quarter-pole and then they started drifting out in front of me. I saw a window on the inside. When I got her to the inside, she rebroke and gave me another kick.”
Beachnut Trophy, who had finished second and third on Tapeta in her first two career races before graduating on turf Dec. 26, remained undefeated in two starts on turf with her last-to-first performance.
The Saffie Joseph Jr.-trained 7-5 favorite ran 7 ½ furlongs on turf in 1:29.99 to win by a length and give Ortiz his third of four victories on Wednesday’s eight-race card.
Ortiz, who entered Wednesday’s action with a 24-percent strike rate during the Championship Meet, also scored aboard Firenspice ($4.80) in Race 3, R Girl’s Werth It ($16.60) in Race 5 and Dreaming of Audrey ($5.40) in Race 8.
“I appreciate all the opportunities. I’ve getting good opportunities. Hopefully, I keep getting good opportunities through the meet,” Ortiz said.
Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Guaranteed at $100,000
The 20-cent Rainbow 6 gross jackpot pool will be guaranteed at $100,000 Thursday at Gulfstream Park after going unsolved Wednesday on the first racing day since one lucky bettor hit the jackpot Sunday for a $342,836.75.
The Rainbow 6 jackpot is paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
