$300K Bet On Sunshine Sees Bango Headline Field of Eight
Churchill Downs Press Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky.— Tamaroak Partners’ Bango will attempt to become the sole all-time winningest horse in documented Churchill Downs history when he takes on seven rival sprinters that entered Saturday’s 15th running of the $300,000 Bet On Sunshine Stakes (Listed).
The Bet On Sunshine was carded as Race 10 at 7 p.m (all times Eastern). First post is 1 p.m. Fans on-site at Churchill Downs can watch and wager on all the action from Churchill Downs along with the Breeders’ Cup World Championships. Each of Churchill Downs’ live races will be run in between the nine Breeders’ Cup races that will all be shown around the venue and on the Big Board.
While some of the world’s best horses are converging at Santa Anita for the Breeders’ Cup, Bango has already stamped himself as one of the all-time greats in Churchill Downs history by winning 11 races beneath the historic Twin Spires.
Trained by Greg Foley, Bango tied the record held by Ready’s Rocket when he won the Louisville Thoroughbred Society during the September Meet. Following that race, Bango tested Grade II company in the Phoenix Stakes at Keeneland but finished third to upset winner Hoist the Gold. Jockey Marcelino Pedroza Jr. will have the mount in the Bet On Sunshine and the duo will break from post No. 8.
Here is the complete field for the Bet On Sunshine from the rail out (with jockey and trainer): Tejano Twist (Chris Landeros, Chris Hartman); Necker Island (Mitchell Murrill, Chris Hartman); Manny Wah (Corey Lanerie, Wayne Catalano); Exxel (Francisco Arrieta, Valorie Lund); Empire of Gold (Richard Eramia, Terry Eoff); Sir Alfred James (Gabe Saez, Raymond Ginter Jr.); Miles Ahead (Joe Talamo, Paul McGee); Bango (Pedroza, Foley); and Awesome Aaron (Edgar Morales, Troy Green).
