Arrogate took Longines Best Racehorse award for 2017 despite his not winning a race since the Dubai World Cup back in March. He went out on a losing streak as he was never able to recapture the form that took him on a tremendous tear through the Travers, Breeders’ Cup Classic, the inaugural Pegasus and the Dubai World Cup. As the award is based on the best performance of the year, not the entire campaign it would be hard to argue there was a better performance than that of Arrogate in Dubai in 2017.
The interesting and somewhat contradictory thing is Longines introduced a new award in 2017 for the Best Performance and that went to Enable for her great race in the Prix De l’ Arc de Triomphe. Confused? Me too. Still in all Arrogate is a superb horse who still broke the long standing record in the Travers. Bob Baffert has been extremely lucky getting great horses to work with over his entire career as a trainer really. Awesome Agains’ fastest progeny ever just in front of Cross Traffic.
