LOUISVILLE, Ky.— D. J. Stable, Medallion Racing, Barry Fowler and Parkland Thoroughbreds’ Papilio (IRE), winner of the Appalachian (GII) last month at Keeneland, tops a field of 11 for the 39th running of the Edgewood presented by Forcht Bank (GII) for 3-year-old fillies going 1 1/16 miles over the Matt Winn Turf Course.
The Edgewood is the day’s 10th race with a 4:51 p.m. post time.
Mark Casse trains Papilio, who made her U.S. debut in March at Gulfstream Park with a runner-up finish in the Herecomesthebride (GIII). Javier Castellano has the mount Friday and will break from post nine.
Papilio will once again face Cairo Consort and Mission of Joy, the two fillies that finished right behind her in the Appalachian.
Repole Stable and Town and Country Racing’s Cairo Consort, trained by Todd Pletcher, closed 2022 with a third-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (GI) and this year has victories in the Ginger Brew (Listed) and Sweetest Chant (GIII) and a third in the Herecomesthebride, a nose behind Papilio.
Tyler Gaffalione has the mount and will break from post three.
Miacomet Farm’s Heavenly Sunday has won two of four starts for trainer Brad Cox. She led late in the Appalachian before being overtaken by Papilio and Cairo Consort. Florent Geroux has the mount and will break from post eight.
