Trainer Antonio Sano is keeping the faith in his Kentucky Derby prospect Gunnevera. The colt is coming off a big win in the Fountain of Youth, and doesn’t really have to win the Florida Derby to run for the roses.
That said, you really don’t want to be in the gate the first Saturday in May coming off a bad or sub par race. I felt we may have seen the best of Gunnevera in the Fountain of Youth, and he may be ready to bounce or regress off that race. Sometimes peaking too soon can be a problem for three-year olds on the Derby trail.
